Well I finished my first week of classes. I've read 3 plays, 7 chapters of a textbook, and several handouts. Basically we read a lot.
My Shakespeare teacher, Dr. Iyengar, is very knowledgeable about everything. For our first class she asked us all of our major, and now she always looks/questions (at) me when she mentions anthropological facts and ideas. However, I generally have no clue what she is referring to. Hopefully she will teach me to be a better writer and a better anthropologist. Her classes do not feel like 2 hours, but sometimes they can drag at certain points.
My Old Testament professor, Dr. Gillingham, is awesome! She thinks 2 hours is a long time without a break, so an hour into class she gives us biscuits (cookies) and coke. Her husband is the Provost of Worcester College, so we have class in a room the bottom floor of their house (which was finished in 1776). She also lets us wander the Provost's gardens. No students are generally allowed in there, except for the UGA students. She is also knowledgeable. She can read Hebrew and uses a Hebrew Bible actually written in Hebrew! Her classes go by quickly. Thursday after class she invited us to a wine reception in her house with her husband. The Provost's lodge is very beautiful and contains some old original paintings.
I already turned in one paper Monday for Shakespeare. Now I have another paper (3 to 5 pages) due Monday for Shakespeare and an another paper (8 pages) due Tuesday for Old Testament. Not to mention the books and chapters I have to read before class next week!
Last night we went out dancing. It was very fun. Today I think some of us will stay in and watch a movie because we all have to work this weekend! Sunday is Easter and Dr. Iyengar and our RA (James) are planning a Cadbury Easter egg hunt for us! And then we are all cooking a house dinner. I volunteered to help cook, so hopefully no one wants to try anything too difficult.
Other than King Lear what have you read? I keep waiting for a sunnier picture of the UGA house and then remember - you are in England! Actually, it looks the saem here which is always appropriate on Good Friday. AK
ReplyDeleteVery glad you got to go dancing! You are busy and it's not even summer school. What fun, a Cadbury Easter egg hunt. What are you writing about in Old Testament? Perhaps you should email us your papers so we can be educated along with you. AB
ReplyDeleteSounds very cool Jules.
ReplyDeleteLove that the Aunties have taken to signing their names with just their initials! All of the reading can be so dreary, I know...but I'm glad the lectures are interesting :) Thanks for keeping us updated; it is very fun to know what you are experiencing. And I second my mom--send us your papers so we can be informed too! love, the other JK
